Shot Sunday morning at Fort Desoto as a storm approaches about an hour after sunrise. Notice the rainbow colors in the clouds. And as a bird guy, I could not resist including a Royal Tern in flight.

It was a fun morning shooting birds as Fabs, Al Forns, Artie Morris and I were all present and standing in the lagoon when the colors showed up in the clouds. Though subtle, it made for a nice landscape shot. Artie and I moved to wide angles to capture it as a birdscape with a flock of sandpipers and godwits in the FG, but they all flew as Artie moved into position. I shot first with my 100-400mm at 100mm before switching to the wide angle so this ended up being the better shot.

Christina Evans and her husband Stan joined us later.

Comments welcome.

Very nice!

The details in the grasses don't show up at this resolution--I'm sure this looks even better full size.

Paul,

Your right. I noticed that the grass detail is pretty muted at this resolution. It should be better. There was also a stife wind blowing. In the lagoon your protected by the dunes and don't feel the wind but the sea oats were moving around being on top of the dune. So there may be some movement here contributing to the lack of detail. 1/1000 shutter is a bit low if there were moving and since I didn't feel the wind, did not compensate for it with a higher shutter speed.

I shot about eight of these images so will have to critically examine the others for sharpness in the sea oats. Thanks for commenting.

A very nice calming image. And yet you can see the pending thunder-boomers building.

I very much like this shot, and that small rainbow is really nice. However, I would have like to see more DOF to get the grass in focus.

I find the very bright cloud a little distracting. I prefer it cropped from the top to above the rainbow. The dark clouds go very nicely with the saturated FG elements.
