Photographer Silhouette
Flathead Lake, Montana

Inspired by a gorgeous Montana sunrise and an idea from Dennis Olivero, I took some silhouette shots of Greg against the morning colors.

Based on my web logs, this is one of the more popular images. Sorry about the upper right corner watermark, I couldn't easily find the JPEG without it so I posted the image from my website.

Digital capture with Canon 1D2
70-200mm lens at 110
Evaluative -1 for 1/1250 at f/9
ISO 400
Handheld

Image comments/critiques appreciated!

Love everything about it - colors, focus, comp, space for your copyright, etc. Easy to see why this is so popular. (Hope the subject was cooperative.)

What makes this image for me is the three dimensional aspect. By having the far away mountains a bit lighter the subject stands out very well. Also like the gradation in the sky.

...as for the model.. I don't know probably would keep my day job :) :) :)

Heather can you post the focal length used?

When I looked at the thumbnail, I said to myself, "That's Greg." And I was right! Amazing! It looks to me like a silhouette version of another picture I've seen of Greg (which doesn't appear to be on either of your sites...)

Anyway, it's a nie shot. I love the colours!

Paul, perhaps you are thinking of Greg's avatar? That's the only other silhouette shot I can think of.

Could be... But I thought I had remembered another (not a silhouette). The shot in my mind is with Greg wearing the same jacket as in the bio shot on his website. But my mind is notorious for giving me detailed memories of things which never existed...

Beautiful colors and silhouette against the mountains! Shouldn't he be using a tripod in such low light :D . Great image.

It was our first outing with the Mark IIs, so we were cranking up the ISOs and handholding. I was handholding here, too. :D
