Just a grab shot, while out walking Chloe on the ridge a block from home yesterday.
That's the Downtown Calgary skyline waaay off in the distance.
I did a quick and (very) sloppy linear/regular blend, as the sky was pretty washed out. If I'd have had the time, and if Chloe had the patience, I could have done much better, with a polarizer , and a bracketed exposure blend. Another day perhaps.

Steve first of all Chloe looks magnificent!!! Congratulations :)

I like the image a lot no need to apologize for anything.... The use of close up WA perspective looks great and it has been well done.

Might be tempted to go wider closer and higher to get Chloe a little under the horizon line. Gorgeous as is Big Congrats!!!!!

Other than Al's suggestion of changing where she hits the horizon line, I like this a lot. Chloe is gorgeous and great light to show her in. Can you take the leash off for the next shot? Also, great place for more skyline shots.

Beautiful dog and excellent photo - my only nit is also where her head hits the skyline! 8) 8) :)

The merge nit has already been mentioned! My only other nit is that it would be nice if her head was turned just a bit towards the camera. (And if the leash was on her other side, it wouldn't be visible...)

The sky looks fine to me: not washed out at all.

Beautiful dog! That's one thick coat she's wearing!

A suggestion for a different (but not necessarily better) shot: use a longer lens and stand back further to keep the dog the same size. This will bring out the city skyline better, but at the expense of losing some of the river valley. It depends on what you want to emphasize. Another location, for skyline shots is Edworthy Park over at the corner of Bow & Sarcee Trails. You can get golden sunset light on your golden dog there, with the skyline in the background, and a similar foreground. (I've posted a shot of Brierly there before.)

Thanks. The sky is the linear conversion, the bottom half is the normal conversion from Raw.

Working with Chloe is a struggle. If I'd made a noise to get her to look at me, she'd come running over :) If I backed up any further, she'd also have come running, in fact I was lucky to get a couple of shots off. We're still working on "stay". Removing the leash is just asking for trouble...
One day I'll try again with an assistant.

I didn't say to remove it--I said put it on the other side, where you can't see it!

In my shot of Brierly lying down on some rocks (you know the one), he's actually tied up, but you can't see the leash...

The small nits have been mentioned. They really don't diminsh anything in the image to my eyes. I Do like the suggestion however of using a longer lens to seep the doggie in more perspective to the surroundings. However, the effect of keeping Chloe at her present size makes for an interesting image so it's all just a subjective matter of how the photographer wants her perceived.
