This is from the Alligator Farm last year. A tricolor with a broken wing was saved by the staff. One of the photographers spotted the bird and they got him right away.

A bird rescue organization came over and took him in for rehab... happy ending :) :) :)

Comments welcome and much appreciated

She is indeed handling the Tricolored very gingerly, probably a bit different from how she has to handle the alligators on that farm!

You caught the moment very well, Alfred. I like these kinds of shots because it stirs that little place in all of our hearts that always wants to help out a living thing that is in distress!

I like that you kept the 2nd aid going over the fence which adds to the urgency and uncertainty captured in the bird and 1st helper.

....Paul the third helper is behind with the alligators

Geoff that is a cruel place in a way.... When the birds fall they become alligator chips. Hate when that happens. If you look in the Alligator Farm website one of the winning images was a spoonbill in the jaws of a gator!!!!! Very dramatic.

Alfred, is what you say about the fate of birds on that alligator farm then also the explanation of the broken wing in this heron?

This one got a broken wing probably from a nesting incident? The ones that become alligator chips usually fall by accident or when the gators bump the tree and shake it!!!!!

The trade off is that the birds are safe from other predators since the gators are guarding them. Difficult for a Raccoon or snake to get by :)
