Twenty Seven years after my first Zion shoot I finally get the elusive Gray Fox. It wasn't easy in the gathering dark in Zion Canyon, but very worth it. Careful processing mitigated the high ISO, but it was very dark and the D3s produced an amazing image.

Nikon D3s, 500mm f4 lens, ISO 3200, f4 at 1/350, Bogen Tripod. Raw converted in ACR.

I saw a Gray Fox from the shuttle a week ago and was pretty thrilled to have the sighting- similar situation with fading light. I like that you have the red rock behind it, giving an indication of the place. I hope you did some verticals too.

Interesting animal, I like the eye-contact and superb detail in this. Very nice.

Here is your vertical. No flash, just a bright white rock behind me. Shot this in the Grotto area.

That's where I saw the one from the shuttle. I like the vertical as well but what I was actually thinking was a vertical with that pretty red rock behind the fox, as that would be even more of a sense of place.

I'm trying.... This fox was always in the grass and meadows until finally climbing the canyon's rock wall about ten feet and bedding down. Unlike shooting the sheep up in the red rock, this is the only fox image, other than the first post, that shows some rock. You take what he gives you.

Nice capture. The two sticks coming out of the back of the ears are a little distracting..easy fix. Also a selective darkening of the BG would help keep the focus on the fox (for me :) )

Great moment.
