Life (and death ) on the line; a tiny spider I captured yesterdayevening; had to use flash to stop the spider and fly from turning round ; ss 60 th at f5.8 was the best I could do;
Canon 10D, 150 mm macro, cropped about 25 %,

Hi Herman
This is a great behavioural shot, with a really pleasing graduation of tone / colour in the background. I really like the narrow DOF here because I think it helps to add a nice three dimensional look to the image. The way the spider’s clinging to the web and appears to be emitting silk makes this shot stand out IMO. If I had a wish it would be that the primary focus was more upon the spiders head, but this is really minor stuff when one captures an image a special as I believe this one to be.

Best Regards
Matthew

That's one large lunch for a small spider!
The blurred legs serve to emphasise the action IMO.

Nice work Herman.

Very nice, great action!
Love the bg and the just barely visible web.

As others have said, I like the blurr as it adds to the sense of action (struggle/death). Nice capture. :D

Such a nice image. I wonder which parts of the fly the spider will eat?
