Speckled Bush-cricket (Order Orthoptera, Leptophyes punctuatesma)
Canon EOS 20D Cannon 180 Macro upon Tripod ISO: 400, F11 @ 1/20 sec PS levels adjustments applied Of the more than 17,000 species in this order most are tropical, some 650 or are found in southern Europe, and of this only 30 species are found in Britain. This particular cricket is around 10 - 15mm in length and although these are fairly common their green colouring makes them very hard to spot in their preferred habitat of dense bushy undergrowth (brambles, nettles ect). Unlike most insects in this order their call is so quite that its doubtful you would hear them. Thanks & hope you enjoy. Matthew |
