Its not quite sharp, but then probably wouldn't be with an extreme crop - despite this I don't think its actually any the worse for it! It really gives me a small taste of what it must have been like to BE there and have seen this. I love it :D

Cheers,
Simon

This would be perfect for our upcoming Solstice motif Joe! I love the abstract quality of this image and its dream-like feel. Thanks for posting this. 8) 8) 8) 8) :D

Very nice Joe! You must have been up pretty late to catch those colors if this was taken recently.

Thanks folks! I truly wish this was full frame! :( This event was one of the driving forces behind my purchase of a 500 (this was before I discovered avian photography) :)

Al, Thanks so much but it's better to be lucky than good - I was in the right place at the right time :) There were actually 2 humpbacks feeding in a small cove - they were driving herring up against the cliffs and scooping them up with the mouths wide open. I couldn't get any closer and the light was dying so I settled for just experiencing the show and trying for a couple backlit spout images.

Simon, yep, just being there to witness the moment was the most important thing.

Tim, taken 2 summers ago in May I believe. My wife and I were out picnicng. I don't think it was too late (especially down here).

CHeers!

Really conveys a mood, especially the monochrome color and the spray. Nicely captured.

Very neat! Man, if you were in a boat 50 feet away from this guy when he spouted!
