Thorn

EOS300D, Sigma 100-300 F4, ISO 400, f5.6, 1/250.

This was my father's faithful companion until his passing four years ago. She is now thirteen years old and enjoying her twilight years with my mother. With having a naturally white muzzle, she doesn't show her age as much as some other breeds and I am sure she still thinks she's a pup!

All comments and critiques always welcome and appreciated and thanks for looking.

Beautiful friend and companion with a very expressive face. Balanced very well in the frame and would look really nice on the wall. Three small nits: I see a rinng around the dog as if a Gaussian Blur was applied to the BG perhaps just a bit heavily. Also th shadows are just a touch muddy and some of the hair detail and texture seems to be lost and just a slight magenta cast. But still I love the image.

Thanks Harvey, I agree on all counts. 8)

I had hoped to get her outside for a few shots on our last visit, but the day just poured with rain so she sat in Mom's house surrounded by all sorts of furniture and annoying things!! I ended up just taking this snapshot and having a go at removing the unwanted objects - obviously not too well!!

She has such a lovely face, and is really now on borrowed time, so I didn't want to miss the opportunity.

This is all very easily fixed BTW :D . I did this in less than two minutes on a compressed jpeg and so ther's not much finess possible. With the master file it can be done a heck of a lot better. And FWIW hopefully everybody using digital is shooting in RAW. There's a lot more latitude that way to work with the image. Here's the quicky revisions:

Yes I always shoot in RAW.

Thanks Harvey, your re-touch has certainly brought out a lot more from the shot! Just a slight green cast now to my eye, but apart from that its great!! 8) 8)

A beautiful, sweet picture. The original post looks better to me although a color shift somewhere between the two may be better. I just want to reach out and pat this little pooch on the head.

I like the colour balance on the original much better.

Cute dog. I'm partial to working breeds (esp. the sporting breeds), even if they've never been used for work!

The first seven years of her life she was a working dog Paul, until Dad became ill. She comes from a long line of bird dogs, but for the last six years she has just been a pet. Take her for a walk in the woods though and she snaps to attention and hunts non stop! although a little slower now!! 8)

I usually don't care for photos of people's dogs, but this image and this dog are really lovely.
