Everything that Alaska has, we can find somewhere in BC for the most part (except muskox & polar bears I suppose). The one thing that makes Alaska so special for wildlife photography is that you can easily get to places where some of the big game mammals (caribou, moose, grizzlies) congregate massively. In Canada, the logisitics of getting to similar places is a lot more expensive.

We've been to places in Alaska where caribou streamed by our tents by the dozens, and where they crested hills in front of us 50 to 100 at a time ... and this was only an 1.25 hour bush flight away from our vehicle.

We've seen congregations of moose that amazed us ... and before this past September, I might have called you a liar for suggesting such numbers exist in one location that was just too easy to get to (not you though Tim! ).

But Katmai is where we go to get our photo fix for grizzlies. An extremely unique place that is hard not to love. For wildlife photography, it's pretty hard to beat Alaska ... especially Katmai.

Canon 20D, 400mm f/4 DO lens, 1/1600, f/5.6, ISO 200, Exp Comp -1, approx 30% crop.

A stunning shot Pete! Wonderful pose of the Bear, the detail, the foaming water and that catch - complete with cascades of pearls and rubies! Superb image in every way. :) 8) :D

Great detail of the poor salmon: eggs, blood and all. Great catch by you [and the bear].

Oh Pete, you're letting all the secrets out! And if you thought my moose spot was too easy, next year I'll take you through a couple hundred yards of hemlocks before we deal with the tussocks.

Excellent shot Pete- love all the foam and the streams of water coming down the bear.

Impressive shot! The detail in both bear and fish is great and both their expressions do a lot for the overall impact of the image. On my monitor there's a slight cyan/blue cast which makes the image rather cool though. Of course that's just a small nit for an image like this.
