How did you manage to get so close? Excellent work and it looks as if he ran off soon after you photographed him, well done!

Certainly not the typical body position for a portrait, but it looks good. The muted colors of the BG really make her stand out. 8)

Nice shot although I would prefer him higher in the frame with this pose and composition.

Good point. This is a full-frame post which, for publication purposes, allows room at the top. As a print this would be 8x10 which would address the issue E.J. raised.

They were hungry and I was standing behind some trees.

Actually, the mule deer in Yellowstone were more skittish than in the past.
