A common green lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea) portrait. Usually I really like the detail in the wings of these animals, but I wanted to try something a little different here and catch a frontal view with a shallow DOF. I'm not too certain if it really works. Honest and tough critiques are very welcome :).

Lacewing larvae are active hunters and live off aphids and many other small 'pests'. That's why farmers and gardeners are quite happy to see them. The adults live a more peaceful live though. They mainly eat pollen, nectar and.... aphid honeydew! Quite a change in behaviour! But then... that's not uncommon for insects :). Fascinating creatures!

Cheers!

Cool perspective. The light is very interesting. I think that I might crop some off the right edge as there is too much dead space there. Making it a vertical with the crop would look great. Very nice shot.
Thanks for posting,

I like this very much, but I agree with Wil that a vertical crop makes it stronger. The eye detail is great.

Wow, really cool perspective.
It works for me, though the name does make me want some wing detail :)

Hi Arthur
Overall a really pleasing image and I very much like this different perspective. Looks almost like a bug crawling out of a tent  Seriously I think you have done a great job of getting the focus spot on, having the eyes & front legs sharp and then softly blurring works real well. I would have to agree that for my taste I think you have placed the negative space in the wrong place. I would have preferred to see extra room placed upon the top & left, helping to reinforce the diagonal composition that you have given us a glimpse of in the insect’s placement. I hope you find these comments useful and thanks for another enjoyable image.

Best Regards
Matthew
