Blue Dasher

Well, the dead tree that I cut down a couple of weeks ago had a few "favorite" limbs that the dragonflies liked to perch on. So, ........ we have a screened back porch that has two holes in the screen, one made from a soccer ball, the other from a apple, (long story, --- kids!), so I rigged up some of the limbs I saved and attached them to the back porch right where the holes are.
You can guess what it may look like, and the wife did not like it.
But, ....... the dragons found there way to them and would sit there all day long for me.
I now have a deadline for when those "sticks" need to come down is what the wife said!!
The deadline was yesterday!

Oh well, .......... it was fun while it lasted!

Thanks for looking gang!

Very nice composition and angle!! Something about the OOF branch distracts me :? Overall this is a sweet shot homey!

Great shot of the dragonfly. I agree with Jorge about the OOF branch - perhaps a differing crop might improve the image.

Hahahaha, poor you. Still it may be worth while to have a happy wife :). Just plant a new tree pronto and have new perches!

Nice proof that taking a little distance can work well too instead of trying to fill a whole image with an animal (not that anything is wrong with that! :!: ). It's good that the wings are well separated from the background, despite the contrast there.

Great image of a dragon! Cool perspective. The soft branch at the bottom bothers me a bit - have you considering trying a landscape crop just below the Y in the branch and removing 1/2 of the space above the head? I wonder if that would work...

Nice dragon, excellent sharpness on the dragon. F11 or F16, 300mm? Looks like you used a bit of flash since I see backlight.

Hi Michael
An interesting shot that I have enjoyed viewing. I like the approach of having this beastie smaller than normal in the frame and think it works well. I would suggest that the perch may look a little better if it was placed just that little bit lower in the frame, a minor suggestion and about one very pleasing image.

Regards
Matthew

Wonderful. Too bad that you had to take down such a productive setup
This is a really nice shot. I really like how the light is coming through the insect.
Thanks for posting,

Those sticks can come down, but did she say anything about replacing them with 'new' sticks? Gotta be worth a try if images like this are possible.

Thanks guys!

She keeps a tight ship on the back porch, trying to keep it neat looking and clean.
With me, two young boys, ........ she usually has her hands full, and those sticks simply took the cake!!!

Think I'll keep the peace by not putting up anymore perches on "her" porch!!!
