American Bison
Yellowstone NP

I was intrigued by this situation when shooting and envisioned the silhouette of the lone bison against the clouds. Once I got this in PS, with almost no color in the original I decided to try it as a monochrome, and found it was much closer to my original vision. A light sepia filter gave it more of an "old west" feeling. I hope this is allowed in this forum?
I've done very few b/w conversions, this used channel mixer, I welcome any inputs for improvement. I think I got the whites just a bit too hot.

I'm not a fan of b/w wildlife images, but I think this is one case where maybe it would work better than this sepia tone if the colour version was so pale? Love the silhouette against the skyline. 8) :D

The silhouette is a nice idea and really stands out against the sky. I would also like to see a b/w version. The whites seem ok to me but my monitor is not so flash. Nice shot. :)

I think B+W works well for this situation since it would be tough to get good colors. B+W also emphasizes the simplicity of the setting. :)

If you're using PS CS2, you might work with the Shadows/Highlights to bring out more details in the clouds.

Great idea/composition and the monochrome works well !!

Agree it would be interesting to see it as a straight B+W.

The other thing I would consider is about a 1 degree CCW rotation.
There's something about that slight downhill grade on the right that
bugs me. For my taste, I'd prefer more symmetry in an image like this
but that's probably just a personal thing.

I'm really enjoying all these environmental shots.
Keep them coming !!

I like the feeling of this. It evokes a feeling of loss for the millions of bison that used to roam this country. I agree with you that some of the whites a little hot, but that is easily fixed. Thanks for sharing.

very nice cindy, having the bison at one of the rule of third points really adds to the comp and the clounds finish off the dramatic effect
