This is definitely a grab shot! I was following a bird into the marsh with a spotting scope when this animal and I surprised each other. It has a few weeds on its body from foraging in the tall grasses. Image made with Swarovski HD80 scope and 1Ds; ISO 200, 1/400 sec. Have other images where the head is turned towards the viewer, but this one shows some growing awareness that the animal is not alone. Image cropped 40 %; did not allow enough room for the legs in the tall grass. I should point out the use of the scope is quite limited, but when I am going for a kind of softer style, I like to see what I can get.

ADDENDUM: the second post was saved-for-web in the usual fashion; apparently, I had resized the first post after the initial save-for-web in a format not recognized by PC. Good to know this and thanks to Greg for the suggestion. :)

It works for me. Not a bad grab shot at all.

A birder gone astray....

I like your crop and the intense interest of the deer on something other than the photographer. The grass between you and the deer looks OK to me- all part of the habitat.

What's up with the frame- why isn't there a black margin on the bottom? I find that very distracting.

Tim---:? Strange that the bottom of the photo is missing when viewed on a PC but not on the Mac. The missing part can be seen on the thumbnail but not here. About 3/4 " has been sliced off the bottom. Don't know why, but thanks for noticing and commenting. I shortened the title and reloaded the image & can see it all now.

Very odd! Now I'm just getting the top of the image from the eyeball up, although the thumbnail looks good.

Weirdy weird here. What is going on? I could see it perfectly on both my PC and Mac at home but am viewing now on a different computer again, and can only see the top. I thought I might get lost over here, but not this badly.

I left the old post (the one that only showed a third of the image) without touching and added a new one right below it; now they are both all there on the mac but only the bottom one is a full image on the PC. See, if not ghosties or gremlins, then bugs are on duty here. Thanks for the tip, Greg, and the feedback, Chris, Tim, and Al. That is much appreciated.
