2 days in the lava rocks; 1 pika; 1 opportunity for 1 image!  Alotta work!
Canon 7DII, 500mm + 1.4, ISO 400, f9 @ 1/125.  20% crop to remove OOF rocks on bottom.

A nice close up of the little rascal...I use Pika colonies for spotting predators.

But that work paid off handsomely. Good pose and alert expression, nicely composed amid the boulder setting. Cropping the foreground was a good choice for this situation.

Pikas at Lassen can be difficult. Shooting in the talus slopes normally forces the photographer to deal with OOF foreground elements and tough lighting with bright rocks and deep shadows. You minimized both to the extent possible with your comp/crop. How does this look as a black and white?
