What can I expect when I register?
Immediately After Registering
Upon registering for your adventure, you will immediately receive an automated email confirmation of your registration, which also serves as a receipt for your deposit. Within 48 hours or two business days we will contact you personally to confirm your reservation.
Before the Workshop Begins
About 90 days before the workshop you registered for is scheduled to begin, you will receive a detailed information package which is customized for every workshop that NatureScapes leads. This package is full of comprehensive trip information, including a welcome letter from the workshop leaders, detailed lodging and transportation information, equipment suggestions and clothing guidelines, luggage requirements, important contact numbers, an interactive registration form, and anything else that pertains to the specific workshop you registered for.
“The packet you all put together is incredible! I wish everybody who offered workshops was as detailed and informative as NatureScapes. Very, very impressive!” –Karen S.
In Preparation for the Workshop
As part of the registration process, attendees will be asked to summarize their photography skills and what areas they feel they need guidance with the most in terms of advancing their skills. This gives us the opportunity to get some background information to design the workshop programs with the individual needs of the attendees in mind.
Each workshop is different. Some are all inclusive which includes lodging, meals and/or transportation; others may not include certain things. For details on what is included in each workshop please refer to each workshop page in the current schedule.
What about instruction and activities?
While each workshop location is different in terms of what the activities are, whether we are flying in helicopters in Hawaii, or exploring St. Paul Island by vehicle, all workshops will include a mix of in-the-field instruction as well as some formal classroom, teaching and critique sessions and in-depth discussions on the ins and outs of nature photography.
How large are your group sizes?
All of our groups are kept small so a high level of personalized instruction is available for all skill levels. In general there are no more than 8 attendees per instructor. This allows us to focus on your individual needs, minimize our impact on the areas we visit and maximize the photographic opportunities. The end result is a better value for your money and time and a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
What is your cancellation/refund/payment policy?
Cancellations can be made up to 120 days prior to the workshop date, however you forfeit your deposit unless we cancel the workshop, in which case you will receive a full refund. Cancellations made after 120 days prior to the workshop date are not eligible for refunds. We have the right to cancel any workshop for lack of registrants up to 120 days prior to the workshop date. While many workshops will run with just a single registrant, other may require a minimum registration. Visa, Mastercard, American Express and PayPal are accepted for deposit payments. Should you wish to pay the final payment amount by credit card or PayPal, a 3% convenience fee will be added to the remaining balance. We do accept wire transfers and checks.
Do you offer equipment rentals?
Depending on availability, participants may rent photography equipment from us for their use during a workshop on a first-come-first-served basis. Selection is limited. Please inquire for availability and pricing. We can also refer participants to reputable photo equipment rental companies.
Deposits are required to reserve your spot in a workshop. Amounts are specified on each workshop page. Unless otherwise specified, deposits are non-refundable—unless we cancel the workshop.
What about travel insurance?
There are many companies that offer travel insurance and we highly recommend considering purchasing travel insurance, especially for more expensive international trips.
What is your smoking policy?
We do not permit smoking within vicinity of the instructor or other non-smoking participants, either in the field or during indoor class sessions. At lodges and after hours smoking may be permitted in certain designated areas. Check with us if you smoke. We also do not have any instructors who smoke.

The Ultimate Falklands workshop offered the best combination of location, timing, and leadership that I've experienced to date. Greg worked tirelessly to see that all details were perfect and to offer guidance to all participants regardless of ability level. He was always alert to those small details that make a big difference.
Paul S. Ultimate Falklands - Falkland Islands
It was great to have Greg as a mentor. He is very forthcoming and does not mind sharing inside info on how to, camera settings, use of equipment and in general to get the most out of what is important at that moment. I will for sure take many more workshops with him.
Carlotta G. Loons and More - Kamloops, BC
Along with their expertise in photography, Greg Downing and Greg Basco have very good senses of humor, which can be particularly important when dealing with a variety of personalities among the workshop attendees. They worked very hard to answer all questions and to anticipate logistical problems and deal with them promptly. Jóse, too, contributed mightily to the quality of the overall experience, with his quiet competence and knowledge of the birds and other ecological elements.
Eric W. Hummingbirds and More - Costa Rica
Greg and Alan are a great team! I was amazed at their dedication and ability to find photo opportunities at the remote sites.
Alan L. Loons and More - Kamloops, BC
I really appreciated Greg's supportive approach and his willingness to respond to our questions. His knowledge and experience did not come across in an arrogant way, but rather gave us access to the kind of gains that we could hope to make in improving our approach.
Daniel G. West Coast Bird Rookeries by Boat - Sarasota, Florida
My first trip to Africa, and I am so glad we were able to experience it with Greg at the helm. The itinerary was good. We were able to see diverse habitat and animals, of which there were plenty! Greg is very good at showing me what to take photos of, especially guiding me to try more artistic shots as well. I found that exciting! Also, getting the habitat in the photo, not just concentrating on the animals filling the frame. I was so happy when Greg helped me! It got me excited about trying new ways to see and photograph my surroundings, because there were many times I experienced "sensory overload" with animals everywhere! What to photograph? Vast landscapes as far as the eye can see... how to capture that? Greg helped me. And he has a very calm and easy manner. In a nutshell, he's a very good instructor. And he was very knowledgeable of the area. He knew where to go and we kept going. At a good pace, I think. So overall, I can say it was fantastic! Thanks Greg!
