Congratulations Richard! This image is the bird Image of the Week for the week ending 10/24/03!

I'm not sure about this composition, but I wanted to include the rock because I like the color and texture. This was hog heaven for me; early morning light and still water.

I think you made the right choice including all the rock. The composition is a little different and I like it. The reflection couldn't be better.

Absolutely gorgeous reflection and still water. There are no textures or ripples in the water that gives the bird and rocky perch a feeling of floating out in space. Well composed.

With those conditions....I don't think it gets any better than that. You took good advantage of it and have a beautiful shot. I could get still water and good light at Conneaut.....just had a lot of ugly mud to contend with. An excellent shot you have here.

After seeing this shot, I think it is time I sold all my camera equipment and took up another hobby! WOW. Now I know what to aim for.

Richard, This is my favorite shot of yours so far. This is outstanding. The reflection is razor sharp. Love the rock. Incredible photo.

Nice one Richard,

Given time with the bird I would have tried other horizontal comps and a vertical or 2  The posted comp is away from the norm but I feel it works fine as the rock on right balances the bird nicely. Fantastic reflection, heck the reflection almost looks sharper than the bird itself!

Well Done!

Awesome! Out of the box comp here and it looks great. My first thought was if only the bird were facing the rock. However, this works very well.

A wonderful image! I agree with you that cutting off the rock would ruin the composition. That glass smooth reflection is to die for. It's just slightly tilted but not enough to hurt the image.

Hi Richard,

I haven't posted on this forum before (did a lot at NPN until recently) but I just had to congratulate you on an absolutely superb and unique image. You could not have done a better job on composition and everything else is perfect. Bravo!

The reflection looks like it might be in a mirror.

This looks good from all aspects.
