I was contemplating ways to mimic the effects of a Graduated filter when the idea for the 'Magic Cloth' came to me. This involves exposing a part of the scene at a time allowing the darker parts a longer exposure.
You can read more about the technique on my blog here:

This is the first image I ever took with this technique. Now I rarely take a picture without my magic cloth.

Wonderful colour here! And that piece of ice in the foreground makes for a nice point of interest.

Interesting technique--it really should have been obvious to try that! But it's only useful for long exposures.

(A typo on your site: a 10:1 ratio is just over three stops, not four.)

Thanks Paul
yes, it does require a long exposure but that can be achieved with a ND filter. Often, long exposures enhance a landscape.
10:1 - that wasn't a typo, that was a 'Braino', thanks for pointing it out!

The image is beautiful, almost doesn't look real, more fantasy like. Just an incredible shot. I also went and read your technique on our blog, and thank you for sharing that. I will have to round up something to use to try it out!

Welcome to NatureScapes! What a spectgacular image!!! It's incredible that you got such a fantastic result on a first try with a new technique.... I really love the colors and the composition of this image - it's really very gorgeous.
I'll have to try to remember to hold my sticky sock in from of the lens if ever I forget my GNDs! ;-) Thanks for sharing a very unusual technique...

Stunner of an image. I love it. I only had the opportunity to go to Jökulsárlón once and it was overcast and dull. I definitely want to go back and this just confirms it.

Great shot. Colors and comp are outstanding. I have been on your blog and read your entry about the "magic cloth" technic. Sounds quite interesting and worth a try. Your gallery is great as well.
