I guess these little hoppers are nymphs but I've seen a lot this size and no intermediates that I'm aware of

Oooooooooh, what a cuty!!! 8) .

I'm not familiar with American species unfortunately. Grasshoppers do not have a larval stadium. When they hatch, they are miniature adults (be it with some small differences in appearance). My guess is that this might just be a tiny species, or it's a youngster.

Whatever it is, it's a very nice image! You might be able to add some magenta and/or red in curves or levels, so that the flower will pop a bit more. There's a slight green cast to the image on my monitor. That's a small nit though.

Cooooollll!!!! this is a mynph of a Scudderia (bush katydid) probably Scudderia fasciata (tree-top bush katydid). They eat pollen at this age.
