This is probably off-the-wall, but I wonder if anyone has attempted to rig up a digital camera to record images through the eyepiece of a theodolite, transit or total station. The reason I ask is that I know there are those that use digital cameras rigged up to a spotting scope and I figured there should be enough similarity between the spotting scope and the eyepiece of a theodolite.

I have the occasional need to check the installation of some automated storage systems and a theodolite is used to check that various items are where they need to be and are aligned and plumb. I'd like to be able to document this with a digital camera.

Thanks,

Brian

The trick is getting the axes of the scope and the camera lined up properly. A while ago there was a place that sold such things: http://www.scopetronics.com/ check out their EZ-Pic adapters.
