While a wheelbug sucks the life out of a honeybee victim, two soldier beetles go at it just inches away, bringing new life into the world. Philosophical, isn't it? :)

This was a very dark and windy day, and I had a number of failed attempts to get this shot. I'm pleased with how it came out, though.

EOS 10D and 180mm lens (288mm effective FOV)
1/100th second @ f/11
ISO 400
Tripod mount
macro flash combined with natural light

Great shot. I've never seen a wheel bug before. Pretty awesome creature. Would love to see some closeups of that guy if you have any.

Very cool shot. Ever notice how the wind always picks up when you bring out the macro gear? :roll:

Wheeee.. I've never seen a wheelbug before. That looks like a very interesting and impressive animal!

The combination of actions in this image is quite unbelievable. Both actions captured apart would be great already, but having them together is really special. Background and perch are great too.

These are the same family of critters that transmit Chagas disease I believe. Saw quite a few of them further South.
