wildflower or weed?

I shot this today on the roadside of the sunflower trail a few miles north of town. I added +5 magenta to it.

Hi Lisa
Although this is a really nice composition, it is very hard to help with the ID. My guess would be a kind of thistle, but there are so many species that have this type of flower head one would really need to see much more of the plant to ID it correctly. My mothers definition of a weed is anything that grows where she does not want it, every else is either planned or a happy accident :lol: Thanks for sharing a really pleasing shot that I have enjoyed.

Looks like bull thistle, hard to tell just from the flower.

I have to agree Lisa, in that it looks like the flower from a thistle.
