Hi,

I am using D800 along with 500mm F4 with Wimberley II Gimbal head with Gitzo 5542 LS.
Like to add another head for my Bean bag (Apex - Max size).
Being accustomed with Gimbal function like to go with Gimbal.
Now There is lot of + ve reviews on Jobu head but also wondering how will be new M3.6 Gimbal.
Heard folks talking about this 4th generation M3.6 head on high note.
How it will compare to Jobu Gimbal, Lighter obviously but any other respect to performance.
Is there any additional replacement foot required to attach with M-3.6. I already have Wimberley replacement foot & do not want to change it.

I have Wimberley II as my main head. I also used to have and use a Jubu Black Widow head. It weighs 2.5 lbs and it is not as good as the Wimberley II in terms of dampening vibration. I hear from friends that the Jobu Pro is very smooth and very sturdy but it is heavier and balkier than that of Wimberley II.
Mongoose 4th Generation M3.6 is the lightest at 1.5 lbs and I also heard it is very smooth.

The Jobu is only a few ounces heavier than the Wimberley - so nothing that will be noticeable.

If the weight is an concern for the Jobu Pro 2, then you could just convert it to a sidemount and save substantiel weight if needed.

I do not have any experience with the M3.6 (looks awesome) but if you put up the Wimberley 2 versus the Pro 2 I would choose the Pro 2 mainly due to the quicklock and horisontal lockingknob placed on the other side of the L meaning it won't dig into your shoulder when carrying it.

As far as smoothness go I just uploaded a highly scientific "look at it spin" video.

Checkout this Ballhead, pretty well makes gimbal heads obsolete.

The fundamental issue I have with the jobu products is that you need both hands to operate them by seperating the tilt from the rotation on two sides of the head. To my way of working, this is a design flaw.

For use on a beanbag, suggest you look at the Jobu Jr. 3. I find I keep putting it in my bag, even when shooting a 500mm as it moves smoothly. is rigid and is very light. I don't lock the gimbal down when shooting wildlife as you are constantly moving it. You can set the tension on both knobs and leave them which reduces E.J's concerns for me.

The M 3.6 has a ton of flex and vibration though it looks nicer than the Jobu Jr. it is no more functional. Agree with EJ on the placement of the knobs. For me there really is no substitute for the real deal. Why not just get another Wimberley?
