I've been intending to shoot this old Bristlecone pine on a Colorado mountainside for some time but just hadn't done it until yesterday. It was a misty, light drizzle and heavily overcast day. The rocks were slippery but the erie appearance intrigued me so.....

This is really great. I love all of the textures. This would make a great large print.

Incredible how the pine stands out in such a highly detailed environment. A nice shot Lin.

Thanks folks - these are truly interesting trees - about 46 years ago I spent a few months tramping around in the high Sierras in California searching for the oldest living specimens of these, one of which is the oldest known living thing on Earth. Methuselah, a Bristlecone which had been dated by Dr. Edmund Schulman. I had read a National Geographic article published in 1958 - I think - and at that time Methuselah was dated to over 4720 something years old. It's location has been kept secret to prevent the inevitable vandalism.

We are fortunate in Colorado to have a good number of these living monuments and I just thought that this particular frame seems to imbue the viewer with the timelessness...

Best regards,

Lin
