This appears to be yet another move the Canadian government has taken to pave the way for a massive tar sands pipeline project. It needs to get the whales out of the way of that, legally speaking. So with a stroke of the pen, the whales are no longer listed as a species at risk. How convenient.

This just sucks...Canada is selling its soul for the different extraction industries.

No, just our unrepresentative government. Those parts of Canada that understand the issue are pretty angry about it.
