On the first trip the Grebes were rushing in a spot on the lake that had the sun at your back and made for much nicer even lighting but they were a long ways out in the lake so a moderate crop was needed. The second time the grebes moved to a different spot that was closer to the shore but the light was coming in from the side. Not a big of a fan of side-lighting normally but I thought this one had a cool cryptic feeling to it. These guys almost look spooky at times.  Please view this in the larger size to get more of that mood.

1DX---840mm---f6.3---ss1/1250---ISO1600---HH@8:45am---almost full frame

Thanks as always for looking and for your input.  I appreciate it.

Nice shot Dave, I know how difficult it is to get good light at this location.
So to home home with keepers of one of my top ten bird behaviors, it's all good.
They are as much fun to hear as they are to watch.

Cool capture of the synchronized dance, I like the poses, head angles and the the splashes make it even better.

I love these behavioural shots and this is a great one. Love when the eyes look so bright they look self-illuminated. Wonderful capture!

With action like this, who cares about the lighting? Really wonderful image. Thank you for sharing it and the back story.

Best,

Matt
