I've had the great pleasure of spending countless hours with this remarkable bird the past few months. When massive snowstorms hit out area in late January through February, the ridiculous amount of snow caused this bird to vanish from his usual hunting territory. After over a month of not seeing him, a buddy of mine and myself discovered the hawk in the same area a few weeks ago. He has successfully paired with a female Red-tailed Hawk and I have a general idea where the nest is located. It's very interesting to observe him catch a mouse or vole, and disappear into the forest while he hands off the prize to his mate, coming back to search for another moments later. This is by far the most special bird I have ever photographed, along with the most time spent on one subject! Hope you enjoy.

Thanks for looking!

Wow, this is a remarkable bird (and photo). I think I should try for it next time I'm back East.

Great find, story and really interesting plumage, Josh! Snow, light and eye contact make this a great image.

Beautiful image Josh! Love the atmosphere you captured with the falling snow, and the look-back pose!

I know exactly how you feel Josh! I did not know the two species could hybridize.. You'll have a wonderful time with this on and what a beautiful bird!
