I set out yesterday to find some owls to photograph. After spending a number of hours driving around north of Edmonton in a futile attempt to find an owl, I ended up at Elk Island National Park, one of my favourite places.
I came across this porcupine and couldn't resist the opportunity. A very calm and coopertive subject who seemed very content up in that birch tree. I love porcupine faces. They almost look like primates to me. When I got home and showed my friend the picture, she exclaimed: "That's not an owl".
