I set out yesterday to find some owls to photograph. After spending a number of hours driving around north of Edmonton in a futile attempt to find an owl, I ended up at Elk Island National Park, one of my favourite places.

I came across this porcupine and couldn't resist the opportunity. A very calm and coopertive subject who seemed very content up in that birch tree.

I love porcupine faces. They almost look like primates to me.

When I got home and showed my friend the picture, she exclaimed: "That's not an owl".

Been there, done that!

Great job on the exposure--porcupines are notoriously hard to expose so that you can see detail in the face--and hard to get both eyes, too!

Excellent shot Paul! Good composition - on the diagonal and well exposed for detail and colour. Love the eye contact and that sweet face! Great image in every way! 8) :D

As mentioned, it's not easy to see the faces of these guys and to expose them properly. You did both. Nice photo.
