Africa

(In this case, the Lower Zambezi area of Zambia - where you can still spend a whole day in the bush without seeing another tourist. )

EOS 10D. Sigma 100-300 + 1.4TC. ISO 200. F8.

Visit the more remote and untouched areas of Africa where you can be the only visitor experiencing episodes such as this. After the swift descent of the fiery setting sun, in bed at night under a magical black velvet sky adorned with a myriad of twinkling stars, with Elephants brushing past your tent, the chorus of chuckling Hippos, and Lions passing through camp with their throaty growls. Awake to the dawn chorus of the bush greeting the new day - and then come back and tell me it didn't touch your soul! 8)

I understand why Africa would be your favorite place. I love this picture-would love to see it large on the wall.

A very nice double Carol. Love the business-like look of indifference that the lion has contrasted with the ele's interest in the lion. Despite the huge size difference, there's not doubt who's the predator.

Beautiful commentary, although it does sound a bit challenging to get a good night's rest with ele's brushing against the tent and lions passing through camp..... they must have tougher tents that what we have in Alaska....

Afraid the tents are no stronger Tim, you just don't dwell on the size or killing capacity of the animals which surround you! Mutual respect goes a long way!! 8)

Love the photo; love the story.

Glad to see this one again. Touch of dust adds a bit of tension here.

This is a great scene you have captured here Carol. It's hard to explain the feeling but you've done a great job. This is a fantastic pic. :)

I love this! I can't wait to someday go to Africa. This pic, more than a lot I see of Africa, really increases my yearning to see and experience it.

I remember this well, although I was too busy watching one of the other lionesses who had put us between her and the ele

Great one Carol... Africa is on my list of places to go sometime. Is this the last shot in the stand-off series?

I remember trying to go to sleep in a tent with a black bear (and her two cubs) up a tree about 50 feet away... Was a bit nerve-wracking!
