Or simply a rabbit.

Hi all,

These last few days I have realized just how easy I have had it with these rabbits in my yard. I'm definitely not seeing these guys very often anymore and my photographic opportunities are becoming pretty limited right now. However, I was lucky enough to spot this friendly guy. I had to bump up the ISO to 800 and then I still had to underexpose by about 1.5 stops for a decent SS. I ran it through neat image and was actually quite surprised even though there is still a noticeable loss of detail.
Image
Southern New Jersey-Taken on October 2nd, 2005.

Canon 20D+400mm 5.6L.

Exposure: 1/50th at f/5.6
ISO: 800
Exposure Mode: Manual
Metering Mode: Partial
Support: Ballhead in grass w/o tripod.

Full Frame.

I appreciate any honest critique to help improve this image photoshop wise or for next time in the field.

Thanks for looking!

That's a very nice shot Mark. Plenty of detail in that eye.

Vertical was a good choice to keep the ears in the frame. Well done.

Very nice comp Mark. The grain reduction worked good. Nice OOF BG too.

An easy way to make a support for your ballhead is to go to a large hardware store and get a carriage bolt that has the same thread as you ballhead. Drill a hole in an old piece of plywood, 12x16" or smaller, and set the bolt into the wood. You may have to use a hacksaw to shorten the bolt a bit since you don't want it marring the ball. It will be much more solid than just the ballhead.

Nice pose and comp. The low DOF really emphasizes the eye.
