I'm thinking of going the Raid route with an external enclose for back ups (I have been using beyond compare for backing up to external drives) The unit needs to hold a minimum of 4 drives any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Also is a Raid system easy to set up I don't now much about it?

Thanks

There are many options. I use the OWC QX2:

Set-up is very easy. You basically push in a reset button and turn a dial to the type of RAID you want, format and you are ready to go.

EJ did you end up not going the synology route?

Highly recommend synology.com - this would exceed your needs but it is a NAS unit. I use 3 of these (8-bay) for linked backups and an off-site rotation. There is a thread here:

I use the same setup as EJ has in RAID1 configuration. Great unit.
