Vero Beach, Florida, USA

Blue Cypress Lake near Vero Beach is part of Florida’s “Treasure Coast” on the eastern shore. Surrounded by drapes of Spanish moss and lined with cypress trees that glow blue in morning light, Blue Cypress Lake is home to over 240 pairs of nesting osprey. Every year at this peaceful location, busy pairs of osprey build their nests among towering cypress trees that overlook the water.

During this osprey photography workshop you will capture images of birds up-close, in-flight, and eye-level, as well as gorgeous environmental shots of the lake. You will also be treated to early morning sunrises and late evening sunsets on the lake, which are a wonderful setting for Florida bird photography.

The Best Location and Time for an Osprey Photography Workshop

Spanning more than 6,500 acres, Blue Cypress Lake is a massive territory for osprey and other wildlife. An adjacent canal system with shallow waters nearby ensure a reliable and plentiful food supply for osprey throughout the season. Osprey actively nesting, chick brooding and feeding, and flying in and out of nests at close range are all guaranteed.

We have reserved two exclusive 3 hour boat tours daily for Blue Cypress Lake photography. The dates of this osprey photography workshop are scheduled for the most coveted dates of peak chick brooding and nesting season. Planning in advance gives you up close access to photograph osprey during peak seasonal action.

What You’ll Learn

Nikhil will share the secrets of taking control of an active situation and how to best capture these magnificent birds in all their glory.

There will be a strict limit of 4 photographers per boat so you can photograph in comfort with ample space for your gear. Nikhil will spend equal time with all workshop participants, actively teaching you new bird photography techniques that you can use anywhere you go.

“The opportunities to improve my photographic skills in the field were nothing short of mind-boggling. This workshop had everything I could have wished for and more: expert leadership, an experienced boatman, excellent trip companions, and stunning sightings and weather.” –Martha M.

Osprey by Boat - Vero Beach, Florida
I most enjoyed the pristine environment of Blue Cypress Lake and the profusion of ospreys operating in their natural habitat. Also, access by an expert pontoon boat captain (Roxy, and she was terrific) was essential. Nikhil and Roxy worked together seamlessly to provide an abundance of outstanding venues. Best ever for me and I will return.
