Cleaner Shrimp in Anemone
Image copyright Woody Mayhew
These Periclimenes tosaensis shrimp live in this anemone and use it both as a shelter and a food source. The shrimp forage on particles that they glean from the anemone and by cleaning the Amphiprion ocellaris anemone fish that also live in this anemone. They live in other anemone species, bubble coral, and mushroom corals.
I shot this image in March of 2007 in the Philippines on the southwest coast of Luzon Island at Anilao/Mabini area on an afternoon dive at a depth of about 50'.
Nikon D2x, micro Nikkor AF-S VR 105mm, 1/125s @ f/18, ISO 200, manual exposure, Nexus D2x housing, two Inon Z-220s strobes shot manual 1/4 power.
