Took this in the garden a few moments ago.  A male, judging by the longer beak.  (apparently males over winter here as their beaks are longer than the females, allowing them to stay and feed on Teasels , whereas the females cannot and head south).  Non breeding plumage.

Z8 and 800 PF.  1/1000 F6.3 ISO 2000

Thanks for looking.

What a pretty bird Dave - don't look like the GF's we get here but very nice and excellent capture.

Excellent photo of your Goldfinch. As the others have stated, very different from our North American species, but yours is much more colourful.

Lovely bird-I like the look-back and posture on the branch. As others have noted, so colorful compared to GFs where I live. Do you get big flocks? We have 20+ or ours right now. Ours are not very "gold" at this time of year.

Great to have these colorful birds in the backyard, Dave. I like the soft light and look-back pose.

Hi Cindy

My garden visitors amount to about 6.  I have seen a flock of 30 a month back but they passed by.  My Father in Law used to see them regularly, but for some reason they are now scarce where he lives.
