A female Northern Bobwhite Quail photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas on 26 May 2024.  Not often does a quail hop up on a perch.  This one sat on top of the perch for quite some time singing away.  1/500 sec, f/5.0, iso 400, 420 mm.

Great that the Bobwhite cooperated so well, neat to see one with open beak and complementing background colors.

One of the best I have seen of this species. I never saw any of them get up off the ground when I was down there. Love the singing pose.

A fine image, Gene, and like the others, I agree on the appeal of the complimentary colours and tones, throughout your photograph.

Great perch shot! Lovely detail and background. Unusual to see this bird and especially on such a perch. .
