A Warbling Vireo photographed in late August at my pond setup.  I used a branch from our native Pacific Apple tree for the perch.  This species does not bathe right in the pond; but rather, dives into the pond and flies up to a perch to preen.  They do this about 5 or 6 times and then are gone. I try to capture them before they get wet.

Another superb songbird image, Tim, to go along with your recent Warbler post. Excellent detail, captured on the Vireo, plus the perch is very unique, as well. Great lighting for this photograph, also. Usually a species that I see high up in the tree canopy, but no doubt your pond attracts them down to lower elevations.

Great soft light, details and pose, Tim. Sounds like fun to observe the bird doing its thing.

Tim, I don't see many images using fall foliage as a perch and think it adds a lot to the image. Wish I had some perches like it in South Texas. Great detail--outstanding image.

I know you took this in August but I always think of Warblers as Spring birds so the inclusion of a Fall perch is such a calendar shuffle for me .... I love the seasonal contradiction and the lighting, pose and details are spot on.

Thanks Malcolm. Here out west, the main migration is late August into mid September.  We can photograph warblers in the spring, but the numbers are much lower and they are not in need of water like they are in the warmer drier late summer period.  This perch is actually from a native tree right beside my pond. I just moved a branch over the pond so they would use it.

What a beauty. Lovely setting and so nice to see the markings on this bird. I usually see them, sort of, high in the trees.
