Two northern hawk owls have been reported on Ile Bonaventure the famous island in the Perce, Gaspesie region in Quebec. Famous mostly for its large northern gannet colony with many visitors each year.
Someone posted a video of the two northern hawk owls, with one or both calling (stated as an alarm call) on the island in June 2024. Someone else posted a photo of the owl. Another visitor spent a week visiting the island in late June and a guard was posted on one of the trails explaining there is a nesting owl there. I presume it's the northern hawk owls. The owl was still being reported on eBird for Perce in the month of July. I think it's pretty much confirmed.
I think the area of the nest and the trail leading to it, is being guarded (needs to be) based on someone's account but not sure if by chance you'll see one on your way to the gannet colony. Given this, it is safe to report on the owls as visitors can only arrive on the island in the morning and must leave by a certain time end of each day. How big is the northern hawk owl's hunting territory when nesting?
Whenever the young fledge and start to move, there may be a better chance to see them. I haven't been there for 20 years but this summer or fall (access to the island closes sometime in October but the juveniles would have been flying around well before then) may be a good reason for a return visit
