Female Northern Cardinal photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas 2 May 2024. 1/800 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400. Northern Cardinals in South Texas are a subspecies of Northern Cardinals in northern America. The males are a deeper red and the crest is taller. The females have more red throughout their feathers and also have a taller crest than their counterparts from northern America.
