It seems that the parents have already left, heading South. There are four young ones inherited the garden with its flowers. He is on a Cardinal flower.

The hummer looks great, Karl. And the composition does too. I guess I don't understand what looks like some sort of exposure issue with the flowers- on my screen they look overexposed...too red...,not defined...? I'm not good at using the exact terms for what I see, but I wonder if the reds could be toned down , at least. No doubt others will disagree!!

Thanks Cindy. I called up the finished image in DXO PhotoLab Elite version six that I use. The red shows 201 at maximum.
Overexposure would be 255.
I could tone it down but it would not be natural IMO.
This red flower is so bright on the sun that it looks it is emitting light.

Always special to see hummingbird photos, Karl. Excellent "pose", captured here with the spread tail and backswept wings. ( Still have adults at my backyard, and another location, plus some juveniles). Nice lighting and background in your image, as well.

Hmmm. I'm not familiar with DXO PhotoLab, but I'll certainly take  your word (or theirs) for it. I know these flowers are bright! Maybe it's just that, to me they just look very contrasted with the background. Still, a lovely shot!

Great image, Karl.

I'm having issues with the red as well - overblown and no detail on my screen - I wonder if it's a Mac issue?

That red is crazy (saw your explanation comments below). Lovely flying pose ... nicely done.

Great feeding pose and fanned tail, Karl. I'm surprised that the adults already left, I thought they might be around for another month or so.

I doubt it's a Mac issue. Have never had a problem with this sort of shot on my Mac.....

This issue with the red is strange. How can you tell if it is blown until you test it. I can test it (and it looks you don't believe me) but you cannot download it to my best knowledge. You have the right not to like it but please don't make a statement that you cannot support. It is not very nice.
I worked twenty years of my close to forty years of service as a R&D engineer. I would have never assumed anything or made a statement until I tested it and could support my statement with data. It is not professional.

I'm sorry, Karl. I'm not sure whose comment(s) you are referring to. I am not, myself referring to any technical aspects of this shot. I don't even have the ability to do so.My comment was simply a feeling that the reds appear to be blended together a bit, I guess. I don't know how else to express it, and I certainly did not mean to insult you or your understanding of the technology behind this particular  take. Everyone has their own perception of what they see, and I hope we can share personal impressions without  any hard feelings. Otherwise I don't see the use of comments  that don't include any discussion. Personally, I find most of your work 99.9% over the top!
