Nymphenburger Park, Munich.
In that park, some of the herons are very approachable, they practically ignore humans.

I darkened everything but the bird in LR using an inverted mask to get rid of some paler areas.
I could not really change my position, just a little to the left or right would have included some very distracting background elements.

Z8, 6.3/600PF, Tripod + Flex Shooter Pro. ISO 500, f6.3, 1/125.
All Area AF, Bird Subject Detection.
This is about 70-80% crop of the original to get rid of some bright spots on the right.

The first time I used my the 600PF on a tripod. I wanted to wait for a while to get an interesting shot and the bird was constantly moving it's head.

An f4 lens would have given me a cleaner background but here I think the 600PF was enough and with the background having been darkened, I hope it's not distracting.

I think you did beautifully with this. Lovely detail, and the dark background makes a nice contrast. I just got the 600 PF-only had it 2 days! Was lucky to get the 2 year 0% finance through Nikon. I haven't tried a tripod-need to get a plate. Hoping to mostly hand hold. Will be interested in seeing more of your work with this lens.

I use the LP-70 plate from Kirk. It also works with the 100-400 Z lens.
It sucks that Nikon doesn't make proper lens feet.

Lovely shot Markus. Good choice of viewpoint reading your notes and good processing.

Great to have such a cooperative model, Markus. I like the pose, eye contact and also the little feather on its bill.
