White tailed eagle

We spotted this juvenile eagle sitting on a rocky outcrop close to the road. Varanger is a hot spot for white tailed sea eagles, and it is not unusual to encounter 30 or more individuals along the coastal road.

A noble bird, showing off, I'd say!

Must view enlarged to appreciate. I like the head turn and ruffled feathers. It must be amazing to see large groups of them.

Sadly, not all birds are as accommodating as this young individual - most are pretty skittish and wary of approaching humans.....
