The sun was coming and going in every few minutes. I couldn't keep up with
so eventually I switched to auto ISO that worked much better in that situation.

Karl, Very well taken. A nice image. Curious: what autofocus mode were you using?

Thanks, Gene. At that point I still used full manual mode. Later on I switched to auto ISO. Focus mode was Wide area AF C1 to start and and later I switched to single point and back to C1 towards the end. Subject detection is on, Bird.  modified the size of wide area C1 and C2 to my liking. I use 3D mode mostly for static and slow flying objects. What works for me, might not work for you.

Karl, For birds flying that have a clean background, try the auto (all) autofocus mode.  I think that you will find that it works better than any other mode.

Another charmer, Karl. You did well with the exposure, though I foreground leaf is a bit bright. Is that Bee Balm?

Thanks Gene. I haven't tried that one yet but I will next for Terns or other Birds.

Karl, The all area autofocus mode provides, by far, the fastest lock-on.  The other advantage is that once it is locked, a green box goes around the eye, just like 3d.  Once that happens, all you have to do is keep the bird in your viewfinder.  The all points autofocus first looks right in the center of the frame for a subject.  If you have more than one bird that might be in the frame, just put the one you want right in the center and the camera will lock onto that one.  Good Luck.

Another fine hummingbird image, Karl.( I've found similar challenges regarding changing light and ISO settings with Canon mirrorless system, and use auto ISO often, if light is good, but try and switch to manual ISO if possible in lower light, to avoid very high ISO numbers from auto setting when light is poor).
