Female Golden-fronted Woodpecker photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas 27 April 2023.

You can tell this is a female because it does not have a red dot on its head.

Peter, When a Woodpecker lands on a perch, they almost always use their tail to form a three-point position, and this helps to make them much more stable.

Another fine woodpecker image, Gene. Quite an interesting perch- a nice touch of yellow from the cactus top, adds to the photo here, as well.
