We recently spent a few nights in the Richtersveld National Park in South Africa, part of the Ai-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park that straddles our country and the neighbouring Namibia.

This is as remote as you can get in Southern Africa, which means you are very far from any meaningful light pollution, which in turn means the night skies are magnificent.

I captured this photo just before dawn in the Kokerboomkloof campsite - you can actually see the sunlight illuminating the hills in the background...and look how much of the Milky Way is still visible! There was not a sound to be heard except my own breathing and the rustle of my clothing as I adjusted the camera settings - quite eerie and inspiring.

Techs:
Sony A7R3
Sony 16-35mm G @ 16mm
f2.8  | ISO-3200 | 30seconds

A wonderful sight Morkel. Can imagine the silence and wonder being up at that time to witness this vision.
Make your life spectacular!

Lovely image, Morkel.... I thought with current entry restrictions / blackouts, one didn't have to travel that far to avoid light pollution ;)

Joking aside, it must have been a lovely experience - it's difficult to find true solitude these days.

Beautiful image, Morkel and I can only imagine the sky without light pollution.

Interesting shot - the light on the mountain makes this one for me.

A really lovely capture with great light. It makes a change not having the foreground/mountains in silhouette that you get with many shots of this ilk.

Nicely done with good comp and mw placement.
Also like the light on the mtn
Slight magenta cast esp noticeable on the tree?
