A little shift of position revealed a differing bg.  Branches still there, but considered the moment as good practice.  (The first image, the Heron was already in an advanced state of "dive" mode, so no chance to alter viewpoint).

Z9 and the 800S PF.  1/2500 F6.3  ISO 1250.

David, this background is super. To me, the eye contact is so good it overcomes the intrusion of the branch. The branch becomes a non issue.

Great action capture with superb detail and gorgeous light, Dave! The branch is no problem as it hardly crosses the heron, while the beautiful water and background holds your attention.
