I was down low taking images of American Pipit when I heard panting.  I thought someone had let their dog loose, but I looked to my right and there was a coyote almost within minimal focusing distance.  I took a couple of images and let it know I was there.  It reacted by looking at me then running away.

What a special opportunity for you! It’s not often that I have been that close to one without it being aware of me. Of, course, I never had the camera with me at those times. Super sharp and detailed, with perfect exposure and BG.

Magnificent capture Terry. A wonderful opportunity with this Coyote appearing, often recognized by a different sound. Cracking shot.

Great surprise for both of you it seems. Great portrait, details and BG colors, Terry.

One of the best coyote portraits I've seen posted, Terry!  A must click for the fine details.  Beautifully done in all regards.

Gorgeous shot. Love the textures and the beautiful eye. Interesting to see this next to Dave's fox and not the big differences...and some similarities. Great to have been so close.
