From today's outing....

Composite image merged from 8K video file (≈70 frames) in Helicon focus and cleaned up in PS. It was windy, some errors are beyond my skills ;)

Nikon Z9 & Irix 150mm macro

Large view

Thanks for stopping by, have a great WE.

A beautiful orchid Sinuhe.  The large view shows its beauty.  Nice one.

Beautiful orchid, Sinuhe. When I looked at the thumbnail, I thought there were an insect on the lower blossom.

Thank you Axel; the Ophrys family of orchids use a complex arrangement of flower shape and pheromones to mimic certain insects for pollination, as illustrated in this video from the Natural History Museum....note the small size and blustery conditions ;)
This one is locally known as a "Hummelragwurz" - Bumblebee orchid.

Nicely done Sinuhe, lighting is good and the water droplets are a great touch. So is 8K video your standard way of shooting orchids now?

Thanks Chris!  As we don't have a Olympus / OM system set up, with its superb internal stacking feature, video stacking is currently our best alternative, as it allows you to capture 60 or more FPS, a stark contrast to Nikon's focus shift feature, which crawls along at ≈ 1 FPS - useless for any outdoor work!

I first came across the video stack approach on Paul Davies's "Learn Macro" blog, now sadly deleted.

8K, with its file size of 8256x4644, finally allows us to capture stacks with comparable detail to what we achieved previously with rudimentary or manual focus shift technology. Unfortunately I don't yet have the software to process the 12 bit N-Raw files (5780 Mbps at 60p)...so am making do with lower res files (3470 Mbps at 60p)...which are not as robust in terms of dynamic range or colour depth.....perhaps in future.....as lighting can be tricky ;)

It looks like you're having some 'weather' over there by the raindrops on the plant. A little beauty and lovely image of the orchid folk.

Carol.

Hi Carol, yes  it has been quite an inclement moist spring ....but we can't complain....some areas are still tinderbox dry...and desperately need more water.
