Woodcock Orchid Ophrys scolopax

Hi all, been quite a while since I have posted.  Just returned from an extended trip in the UK and Spain, main purpose was to attend a wedding in Scotland but extended the trip as it was so far to go and managed to sneak in some orchid hunting on the side.

This Woodcock orchid was found near the town of Orba in Alicante province.  It was quite dry and not a lot out, but this one was in a dry stream bed.  The European orchids were certainly challenging to find.

Great to see you back again, Chris....had to look at your description twice...to be assured that some of our Ophrys species had not made the jump to Oz!!!

Great find and lovely image (really shines on the large version) of this rare orchid ...still on our wish list.
