Members of the Ophrys orchid family are very prone to cross-pollination and hybridisation. ..... with the resulting hybrids exhibiting an interesting mix of both parents.

In this instance, we were delighted to find a hybrid between the early (O. sphegodes) and late spider orchids (O. fuciflora), characterised by a smaller floral body, than the typical broad late spider orchid and the trademark "H" emblem of the early spider orchid. With typical hybrid vigour, it was in full flower before either of its parents in the same habitat.
